"Invincible" Season 3: Episode 4 review

By Noah Vickery

After a great first three episodes for season three of Invincible last week, anticipation was high to see what would happen next. This two-part episode did not disappoint.

At the start of the episode, Mark and Eve are on a date. Things are cut short when an ominous portal opens up beside them. Exiting the portal are Fightmaster and Dropkick.

Mark assumes they are looking for a fight, considering that he had to fight them earlier this season when they stole the Declaration of Independence. However, they instead came to plead for Mark’s help. They begged him to come to the future for help, but Mark denied it as he wanted to continue his date with Eve.

Unfortunately for him, Fightmaster and Dropkick grabbed him through a portal to the future regardless. This is where they told Mark that an evil king was ruling over the people and that they needed Mark to kill him.

To most people's shock, it was the Immortal who was the king. Mark of course no longer wanted to kill him, but the Immortal himself was begging for it to happen. Ultimately, Mark did end up killing the Immortal because the Immortal was getting too dangerous.

Once Mark returns back to the future, he and Eve share some reminiscing moments together. They even end up telling each other that they love one another.

Onto the second and even more exciting half of this episode, things begin with Allen the Alien and Omni-Man. Allen is persistent in convincing Omni-Man to team up with him and break out of the prison. Omni-Man however has come to terms with his fate of execution and has no desire of attempting to escape.

The time has come, and Viltrumites have arrived to get rid of Omni-Man. He is taking a brutal beating but is not resisting at all. Allen decides that he cannot just sit around any longer and starts his plan to save Omni-Man.

Allen makes the decision to release all of the other inmates in the prison, which unknowing to him includes the long since last scene character Battle Beast. Allen ends up convincing and recruiting him to help save Omni-Man.

Omni-Man is moments away from death when Allen and Battle Beast arrive, sparking an epic fight.

Allen is getting very beat up by the Viltrumites, at which point he starts speaking to Omni-Man. Omni-Man has a change of heart and breaks free from his constraints to save Allen. It turns out that Allen took a beating on purpose in hopes that Omni-Man would do exactly what he did.

Allen makes the decision to break a hole in the prison, releasing the fight into outer space. Omni-Man and Allen manage to work together and defeat one of the Viltrumites with a devastating double punch.

In a final conversation between the two, Omni-Man reveals that there are fewer than 50 pure-blooded Viltrumites left in the universe. This means that there is a potential end in sight for the Viltrum empire.

This episode was great for the storyline and very action-packed. It was a joy to see Mark and Eve spend some quality time together, and the action in the second half of the episode was nothing short of amazing.
