Hotel prices sky-rocket due to playoff game
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.- Penn State football’s home playoff game against SMU has caused much interest within State College. Interest that can be clearly shown regarding the prices of hotels near State College.
The upcoming playoff game, as well as the commencement being held the day after has led to nearby hotels skyrocketing in price as with so many looking for a place to stay the night.
According to a listing from Hotels.com, a two-night stay for hotels in the State College area ranges from a total of $1,700 to $3,500.
Also according to Hotels.com, the Hampton Inn on College Avenue costs $852 with taxes and fees included for a one-night stay on the 21st.
This is not nearly as bad as the Graduate by Hilton on South Atherton Street, with a one-night stay there costing upwards of $1,566 total with taxes and fees included.
Even a notable budgeted place to stay such as the Nittany Budget Motel has been hit with this uptick in price, with a room from the 20th through the 22nd costing $1,108 with fees and taxes.
These high prices have led many people to choose hotels that are a further distance away. For example, a two-night stay in hotels within Altoona ranges from $347 to $762.
It was in the air whether or not a home playoff game would be taking place but with it being confirmed, it has led to much attention, and that attention has led to a massive uptick in hotel prices in State College and surrounding areas.
