Hollidaysburg took a hard-fought victory against Bedford
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - The Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers faced off at home on Monday against the Bedford Bison. This afternoon matchup wound up being one of strong pitching and stout defense, with the final score reflecting such, as the Golden Tigers fought their way to a 1-0 win.
Cloud cover and light rain descended upon the field for this 4:30 p.m. start, though managing to hold off long enough for an entire seven innings of play.
While solid performances from a combination of Bedford pitchers succeeded in keeping the bout close, it was ultimately the Vince Boland show, as he went all seven innings for Hollidaysburg, earning the hard-fought victory.
However, both teams ultimately saw the ball at the plate relatively evenly, with each racking up 5 hits a piece by the end of seven.
The fifth inning brought as much action as the dedicated crowd saw all afternoon. Hollidaysburg’s Ty Szynal launched a ball to deep center field that saw him unhook the trailer and book it around the bases to reach third with a clean slide to defeat the throw.

Another large part of the game was that of errors. Contrasted to Hollidaysburg’s one error, Bedford ended the match with three as a team, aiding the home team’s close victory.
Banks once again shined, this time in the seventh inning. With one out needed to secure the shutout, what appeared to be a clear single to right field instead turned into the winning catch, as Banks showed off his vertical to call game.
With that last out, the Golden Tigers walked away with the nail-biter of a win to improve to three and one, while the Bison travel back to Bedford with a new two and two record.
