Travis Hunter points for a first down

Heisman Watch: Week 5

By Andrew Deal

The Heisman rankings have continued to switch up and this week is no different. A week prior it was a quarterback at the top of the rankings, but after two dominant performances from non-quarterbacks, the top two players come from a position other than a quarterback.

1. Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado

Even with all the hype, Hunter has exceeded expectations in what will almost certainly be his final season at Colorado.

Hunter reached the end zone while tallying 89 receiving yards against UCF. On the defensive side of the ball, he once again picked off a ball en route to a 48-21 victory over the Knights.

The production the two-way player is having on both sides of the ball is unheard of and if he continues at this rate, he’ll be at the top of the conversation when the Heisman Trophy Finalists come around towards the end of the season.

2. Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

Jeanty continues to shock the entire nation with his insane plays and the stats continue to wow the country.

Some enormous runs for the star running back against Washington State prove he is one of the best running backs in the country.

He racked up 259 yards and four touchdowns to lead his team to a 45-24 victory. If these numbers remain consistent there’s no way Jeanty doesn’t get the award at the end of the season.

3. Cam Ward, QB, Miami

Ward drops a bit this week after a close victory over Virginia Tech. It was really the carelessness with the ball that he showed against the Hokies. With two interceptions and a fumble, the easy path to the ACC Championship may not be as easy, if the star quarterback does not clean up the turnovers.

However, he did get the team to a victory and still has those flashes of being one of the best quarterbacks in the country. For him to rise back up to the top, he will have to clean up the turnovers in the future.

4. Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama

If the Crimson Tide continued to blow out Georgia like they were in the first half, Milroe would’ve been higher on the list. However, the Bulldogs quickly closed the gap and it became one of the best games of the season and may go down as game of the week.

He could really be at No. 3 in these rankings with how he ended the game with a massive throw to Ryan Williams to seal the game and get Alabama to the top spot in the most recent AP Top 25.

5. Nico Iamaleava, QB, Tennessee

Tennessee was on a bye week this week which is good for the young quarterback to get some rest.

Iamaleava has an impressive 69 percent completion percentage so far this season while accounting for 892 yards in the air and seven touchdowns.

His team is up to No. 4 in the rankings in his first year as a starter.
