Franchises That Need to Come Back

By Arts & Entertainment Staff

In a world where unwanted sequels are ever so prevalent, the Arts & Entertainment department decided to consider which franchises that have been put on the shelf they would like to see return.

“The Lego Movie”

After four movies, everyone’s favorite film franchise based on interlocking bricks concluded after “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” didn’t quite meet box office expectations.

Now, it is time to give the franchise the wrap-up it deserves.

In an ideal third installment, Emmett and Lucy’s love story would come to a firm conclusion while supporting characters Benny, MetalBeard, and Batman wrap up their arcs.

Finn, the real-life kid who plays with the Lego, would get an Andy from “Toy Story 3” type conclusion by passing his Lego onto another child.

Another conclusion that would create tension in the film but have a nice ending would be Finn packing up his Lego pieces as a teenager before bringing them back out for his kids to enjoy and create new stories.

Everything would be awesome once again if “The Lego Movie 3” came out. -Ben Palillo

"High School Musical"

What they did wrong:

With the release of "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series," excitement arose for athletes and brainiacs alike much like in the original three movies.

The show was released in the fall of 2019, and with a pandemic shortly following it keeping everyone in their homes, the show gained great traction and love.

The show did a beautiful job of showing a wide range of topics such as failure, heartache, family struggles and anything that a teenager at these ages might be going through.

Things began to fall apart though with the release of the second season. It began to branch off into too much of its own show while randomly throwing in references to the iconic movies, making for an awkward combination.

The directors needed to commit one way or another at the start if it was going to build off of the original big three, or if it was going to be its own creation within the school in which the movies were filmed.

What they should have done:

What all “Bop to the Top” fans were hoping for when the 10th anniversary approached was a fast-forward now kind of film.

One that would bring in the big names such as Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu back to East High for something that would bring the gang back together- some suggested a school reunion of such.

With how "High School Musical 3" ended with graduation and relationships plenty of storylines would have existed to give the fans the answers they were craving.

With such a successful franchise, fans were taken aback by the Disney approach, but nonetheless, the show had enough success for the making of 4 seasons. -Bronwyn Liber
