Former PSU Walk-On Is New Ohio State QB Coach

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Former Penn State walk-on quarterback Billy Fessler is set to become Ohio State’s quarterback coach for the upcoming FBS season.

Fessler played for the Nittany Lions from 2014 to 2017, and while he never carved out a starting role, he has continued his career in football coaching with a number of universities such as Mississippi State, UCLA and now, the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Fessler spent the past year as an analyst for the Buckeyes and served a large part in the the refinement of Ohio State quarterback Will Howard.

“Billy Fessler is one of the guys that doesn't get a lot of credit, too; he did an unbelievable job developing me this year,” said Howard in his farewell thank-you video.

Clearly, higher ups at the program have a large amount of trust in Fessler being the guy for them going forward.

Fessler’s promotion fills a void on the chain of command created by last season’s offensive coordinator Chip Kelly taking an NFL job with the new Raiders regime.

As Will Howard looks to the NFL draft, Ohio State will need to shepherd in the development of their new starting quarterback. A starter has not currently been named, but it is rumored that Julian Sayin will get the nod, at least in camp.

Fessler will cross paths again with the Nittany Lions when they face Ohio State next season on Nov 1.
