Florida State firings
An absolutely brutal season for Florida State continues, as they drop 1-9 on the season after a 52-3 stomping by Notre Dame.
This marks Florida State’s third straight loss and is one loss away from tying the all-time worst record in program history.
What makes this season such an interesting one for all college football fans is that the Seminoles went 13-0 last season, as well as winning the ACC last year.
Another mind blowing fact is this team was ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP poll. Their record is also the worst for a preseason top-10 team.
Despite being left out of the playoffs last season, hopes were high in Florida State. Considering the new expanded playoff format, Seminole fans were hopeful their team would make the dance this year.
All of that hype came to an end quickly though, and now there are nothing but question marks for this program in regards to the plan of action moving forward.
One thing that is confirmed however is the firings of multiple members of their coaching staff including offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.
The Seminoles also fired receivers coach Ron Dugans this past Sunday.
Fans of Florida State and college football fans in general saw this coming, it was just a matter of when. The Seminoles rank dead last in all of the FBS in points scored.
They haven’t scored over 20 points in a game since their Week 1 loss to Georgia Tech.
The offense has not been the only issue in this historically bad season. FSU ranks 101st in the FBS in scoring defense. The defense also has allowed nearly 30 points a game.
Going into depth more about specific players that have been a disappointment for FSU, one of the key players that struggled heavily was quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.
Uiagalelei was projected to be the successor to now New York Jet Jordan Travis, but it ended up failing miserably.
DJ through the five games he played this season, has thrown six interceptions and a quarterback rating of 36.7.
The offense also lost star wideout Keon Coleman, who is now a wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills.
Despite the losses, Florida State was expecting the new players that game into the program to succeed in big ways. That did the exact opposite, and it may have cost them big-time players for their future.
Many players that were committed to Florida State have decided to go elsewhere. This includes multiple five and four-star recruits.
It’s clear that this program needs a big reset, and it’s going to be up to head coach Mike Norvell to accomplish it.
He signed a 10-year contract worth more than $84 million before incentives.
Overall, the firings that Florida State made were bound to happen, and certainly a step towards righting the ship
The Seminoles have two more games left to be played. They play this upcoming Saturday against another 1-9 team in Charleston Southern, then end it off against the Florida Gators.
Many questions will be circulating about this program the moment the offseason hits, as Norvell and crew will look to get to work quickly.
