Five Best Places to Eat On Campus
Saxbys
Located in the Business Building, Saxbys has an assortment of amazing coffees, breakfast bites and grilled cheeses.
I usually order the Vanilla Latte and I’ve honestly never had a better one. The rich, creamy flavor of sweet but not too sweet vanilla is truly heavenly.
I’ve also tried all of the grilled cheeses and they do not disappoint.
The Double Bacon Grilled Cheese deliciously pairs crispy crumbled bacon with sweet bacon jam, and the classic Grilled Three Cheese features a scrumptiously unique roasted garlic cheddar spread.
McAlister’s
As one of the can’t-miss restaurants in the HUB-Robeson Center, McAllisters has all the deli favorites.
From soups, salads, spuds, sandwiches and sides, McAlisters offers delicious flavors and a menu with something for everyone.
I love to take advantage of their 32 oz “famous” iced teas- only for $2.79!
They also have one of the best BLTs I’ve ever had. The bacon is always cooked to a crisp and the herb mayo is mouthwateringly good.
Hibachi San
Although one of the priciest places to eat in the HUB, Hibachi-San is definitely worth it.
As a poke bowl stand, Hibachi San offers a variety of protein options, such as fish, shrimp, chicken crab meat, and tofu.
For toppings, they offer six – avocado, fried onion, seaweed salad, corn salad and ginger.
I love how Hibachi-San gives you a big scoop of avocado, compared to other poke places’ non-ripe measly avocado slices.
They also have two sauces, spicy mayo and ponzu, and both are out of this world and absolutely needed for the perfect bite.
Hibachi-San offers a limited selection due to its small stand, but in this case little is more! Instead of filling my bowl with toppings galore, I really appreciate the flavor palate Hibachi-San provides.
Pollock Commons Buffet
When it comes to the on-campus dining halls, the Pollock Commons buffet tops the list. Pollock has a plethora of diverse options while maintaining good quality.
The array of options provided is almost overwhelming, as they regularly have a pizza and pasta station, a salad bar, a vegetarian station, cheeseburgers and fries, desserts, Berkey Creamery ice cream and even a soft serve machine, sometimes with a toppings bar.
Some menu highlights include chicken and beef quesadillas, Indian food options such as chicken tikka masala and archari lamb curry and my personal favorite, grilled cheese and creamy tomato soup.
With a meal plan, all this food only costs a few bucks, but without one you’re spending a pretty penny for overall average food.
Still, with all of the other not-so-yummy dining options on campus, Pollock has some good menu days that you definitely don’t want to miss.
Bowls at South
The best a-la-carte meal plan option is without question, the smoothie bowl stand, located in Redifer Commons.
They have a variety of bases, including organic acai, pitaya, greek vanilla yogurt and overnight oats.
The bowl stand also has a multitude of fruit options and some basic yet necessary toppings that bring the whole dish together.
For a low meal plan price, this meal is a steal as it’s comparable to bowl chains such as Playa Bowls. It is a refreshing and lighter option for a tasty breakfast or mid-day snack.
