Fantasy football: Week 5
Week 5 of the NFL season presents the first week of byes, which means the waiver wire may become a place of refuge for some fantasy owners. No shame in finding saviors on waivers, there is a healthy dose of production up for grabs in most leagues right now.
C.J Stroud
After a rough start, C.J. Stroud has strung together three consecutive weeks of multiple touchdowns and at least 280 yards through the air.
Stroud takes on the No.19 ranked defense against quarterbacks in Atlanta on Sunday and we should be able to expect him to continue his streak of production.
Romeo Doubs
Rostered in just 53% of ESPN fantasy leagues, Doubs sits at No.16 amongst all wide receivers in fantasy points (PPR).
The Packers receiver has caught three touchdowns this season to go along with 224 yards. But where Romeo Doubs excels the most - targets. Tallying 12 and 13 targets in his last two games respectively, he’s proven to be one of Jordan Love’s favorite receivers.
Jake Ferguson
Any Dallas tight end is usually a pretty safe bet in fantasy. Jake Ferguson has essentially filled the role that they lost in Dalton Schultz, being the safety valve for Dak Prescott.
Ferguson has seen an increase in receptions throughout every week this season, including last game where he recorded 77 yards on 7 catches. In a league where tight end production is hard to find, Jake Ferguson could be a reliable option.
Buy Low/Sell High
Four full weeks of the season means we’re deep enough to take advantage of naive managers overreacting to players who’ve overperformed and underperformed. It’s time to buy low and sell high on guys who’ve had uncharacteristic starts to the season.
Buy Low
Jaylen Waddle
Jaylen Waddle’s found himself low in the Dolphin’s pecking order through four games. But the cause for Waddle’s fantasy inefficiency hasn’t been lack of involvement, it’s been lack of touchdowns. Waddle still has had two games of at least 75 receiving yards in only three games played and averages an incredible 17.5 yards per catch.
For any fantasy owner, it shouldn’t be too concerning that he has yet to break out this season. He’s a great candidate to make a run at during a time when owners may be undervaluing him.
Tee Higgins
Yes, Tee Higgins’ season has been brutal, but stick it out.
Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase’s fantasy production has been a causality of Joe Burrow’s disastrous start to the season. When Burrow inevitably turns back to form, which he will, you’ll see the production in Higgins and Chase that we have yet to see this year.
If there is one silver lining with Tee Higgins, he’s still an extremely intricate part of that offense. Higgins has been targeted at least 8 times in every game this season, including week three when he was targeted 15 times.
Sell High
Alexander Mattison
With the addition of Cam Akers, Mattison should see a reduced number of carries as Akers becomes more involved as the second option.
The Vikings are also a passing offense, it could be difficult for Mattison to stumble onto fantasy points in an offense that consists of Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J Hockenson, and now Cam Akers.
Zack Moss
Zack Moss’ fantasy value is higher than it’s ever been. With Jonathan Taylor returning to practice this week and potentially being activated, the Zack Moss time may be short-lived in Indianapolis.
