"Everybody's Live with John Mulaney" Season 1 Episode 3
For this week's rendition of “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney,” celebrity guests Pete Davidson, Luenell, Henry Winkler and funeral director Raymundo Perez-Plascencia gathered to talk about funeral planning.
Along with being a funeral director, Perez-Plascencia is also a licensed embalmer, which means he prepares dead bodies for services. He explained that he was required to go to mortuary school and embalm 200 people to graduate.
He mentions that a lot of goth and emo people end up in this field, which occasionally can be difficult if they are trying to comfort a family.
Luenell was a standout guest on this episode, bringing her bold, unfiltered energy into the discussion.
When asked how people should react to her death, she says she wants people to be so devastated by her passing that they question how they will go on. She notes that she thinks about what happens after death often and wants her ashes to be spread down Las Vegas Boulevard.
Additionally, she puts Davidson on blast by asking how he manages to date so many attractive women, making him laugh awkwardly with her bold inquiries into his personal life.
Davidson never really thought about how he wanted his remains handled, which is ironic because he dies in three of the seven movies he is in. He mentions that, as a kid, he wanted to have his friend drive a car with his body into his grave, going out with style.
While those two had a lively dynamic going on, Winkler talked about how he died in Scream but apparently was not good at it.
The panel proceeded to have an acting dying contest, where they see who can pretend to die the best. Kind took the cake for how realistic he looked.
Kind then told a story about throwing Rue McClanahan’s ashes across Norman Lear’s garden, which Mulaney referred to as throwing Blanche on Rose, as a reference to Golden Girls.
There were many interesting callers for this episode as well.
One was EJ from Sydney, Australia, who held a comedy funeral for a family. The ironically funny part about the event was that none of the guests knew it was a comedy funeral.
Another highlight came from Erica in Roswell, Georgia, who works as a mortician and found an extra foot when preparing to cremate someone.
The headlining performer for the night was a band that goes by the name of Mannequin Pussy, who have played punk and hard rock since 2010.
This appearance was the band’s television debut, where they played “I Got Heaven,” while dressed in unique, religious outfits with a modern take. The juxtaposition of the gritty guitar and ethereal vocals made for a striking performance.
This episode was a wild ride through the world of funeral planning, filled with unexpected stories and hilarious moments that kept the audience entertained from start to finish.
