Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney - “Heights” review
On this week’s episode of Everybody’s Live, John Mulaney brings in David Letterman, Hannibal Buress, Leanne Morgan, Nikki Glaser and musician Randy Newman.
The show starts off with Mulaney continuing his attempt to gather men of all different heights and get them to stand in a line next to each other. He calls this campaign “Know Your H,” meaning “know your height.”
In his monologue, he acknowledges the weirdness of his show, comparing it to a parody of a talk show. He then discusses going to his son’s school show and the struggle of getting his son to wear light wash jeans for the show.
He then brings out his first two guests, Leanne Morgan and David Letterman. Letterman comments on the success of Mulaney’s height bit. Morgan discusses her experience being tall for a woman, with her height being 5-foot-8. They then measure Letterman’s height, which is slightly less than he had expected.
Mulaney makes a slightly badly landed joke when he asks Richard Kind if his family is especially short because they are Jewish.
Mulaney goes to take a call before realizing he doesn’t have enough time to do so. Richard then becomes very upset when he tells a Charli XCX joke and none of the crowd laughs, although it seems as if the audience was instructed not to laugh.
Mulaney then introduces the next two guests for the night, Hannibal Buress and Nikki Glaser. With everyone present, Mulaney thanks Letterman for sending his dad the Emmy for Letterman’s show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.”
The five then take their first caller, Brian. Brian says that he flew to Turkey to get a leg lengthening surgery, because leg surgery is cheaper in Turkey.
Their next caller is Brit. Brit says she is 6-foot-2 and a man at her work once offered to pay her $300 for a pair of her socks, and she did end up selling her socks.
Mulaney then shows the result of his effort to get men of every height to line up next to each other, with Jimmy Kimmel coming in at the last minute to fill in the spot of a 6’0 man.
Charlie Wilson sings in a bright red suit as all of the men of different heights walk onto the set to stand in a line next to each other. They all have shirts that say their height and wear graduation caps, so hair cannot add to the height.
The height joke was completed in a very successful manner on this episode and definitely got a lot of laughs from the audience.
