Dave McCormick wins Pennsylvania Senate race

By Trip Tagle

Republican candidate Dave McCormick has won his bid for Pennsylvania Senator according to the Associated Press, ousting Democratic incumbent Bob Casey.

McCormick’s win adds another Republican seat to the Senate in what is now a 53-47 standing, with more Senatorial race results still being tallied.

The margins of victory for McCormick were razor thin, considering that as of the time of writing the difference between the two candidates was that of some near 35,000 votes, with the election currently still standing at 98% reporting.

Deciding issues for voters in this race were that of immigration and the economy.

Polling on this race for the majority of its runtime told a far different story than what ended up coming to fruition on election night.

Mere months ago, Casey maintained a near 10 point lead, on average, over McCormick, but as the election drew nearer, those polling numbers tightened up.

As the votes are still being counted, the race is not officially over. Yet due to the result of the already cast votes coupled with where point scoring stands now, McCormick will almost certainly be Pennsylvania’s next Senator.

Casey’s campaign has not yet conceded the posited results.

“This race is within half a point and cannot be called while the votes of thousands of Pennsylvanians are still being counted. We will make sure every Pennsylvanian’s voice is heard,” said Casey campaign spokesperson Maddy McDaniel.
