“Daredevil: Born Again” Episode 1 & 2 review
With the original Daredevil show being canceled on Netflix back in 2018, that marks seven years since the character has had his own show. This has left fans eager and excited to see what the new series has to offer.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is not a reboot but is also not an exact continuation of the previous story. While it contains all of the same characters, it so far is following the broader strokes set up previously. This is a fresh start.
The first episode starts off with the beloved main characters Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, chatting it up with one another. However, early on Foggy is tragically killed by Bullseye. This was an extreme shock at the start of the show.
There is a pretty cool fight scene between Daredevil and Bullseye that wildly ends with Bullseye being thrown off the roof of a building. Bullseye somehow manages to survive this great fall.
It is very sad that this might mean that Foggy’s character is already gone, but sets the tone for the era. After this, one year elapses.
The main plot line so far is that Wilson Fisk is running for mayor, a position which he ends up winning. While it is unclear exactly what has happened with Fisk since 2018, it is clear that he is still power-hungry. It is also made clear that Fisk and Vanessa are having marital issues, as they even go to counseling for their problems.
There is a particularly interesting scene where Matt and Fisk sit down in a diner for coffee together. Two characters who are typically seen beating each other up are having a relatively civil conversation. They do however end things by warning each other to stay in their own lane.
Matt’s new love interest, Heather Glenn, looks promising. She is a charming character who is also a psychologist. Matt is known for being a bit of a “player” however, so it will be fun to see how their relationship evolves.
The most epic fight scene so far happens in episode two when Matt is in an apartment. This is very reminiscent of what the show is great at and features a particularly brutal arm-breaking scene. This is the raw action that fans have been yearning for.
This is a good time to dive into the action overall. Daredevil is known for its intense and brutal action scenes. So far, some have been great, and some have been questionable.
The use of CGI, especially in the first episode, wasn’t spectacular. This is sure to be one of the main complaints from fans. Regardless, it is still great to see Daredevil in action again and there are certainly some moments of action that are still great.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is off to a very promising start. There are some storylines and characters that could use a bit more explaining, but overall things are looking bright.
The first two episodes have done their part in leaving a lot of potential for what is to come. The possibilities are endless.
