CommRadio Weekly Playlist: April 8

Here, members of the Arts and Entertainment Department will talk about the songs that dominated their playlists during the week and what makes them so good.

“Overdrive” - Post Malone
I have always liked Post Malone, but within the past few months he has truly become one of my favorite artists. His most recent album, “AUSTIN,” released in July 2023, is one that I continue to revisit.
“Overdrive” is a slower song off “AUSTIN,” and honestly tugs at my heartstrings quite a bit. He sings about not being enough for someone and wanting to change in order to fit their ideals.
One of my favorite lyrics is part of the chorus, where Post Malone sings “I could be more like him / If that’s cool with you / I’d do anything to be cool to you.” Ouch.
In the midst of Post Malone’s recent feature on “LEVII’S JEANS” with Beyoncé and his feature on “Fortnight” with Taylor Swift coming April 18, I think his music is reaching a new audience, which is great.
“Overdrive” is definitely one of my favorites from “AUSTIN,” and I hope that more people will continue to find love for Post Malone. -Sarah Gavlak

“Kingdom” – Downstait
A song that’s been on repeat for the past week? Fitting, for the new Undisputed Universal Champion.
Besides being the theme of new WWE champ Cody Rhodes, “Kingdom” is just an awesome song. Downstait releases really great music, and “Kingdom” is my favorite song of theirs.
Rhodes’s victory boosted the song to No. 1 in the U.S. Rock Charts this past week.
“Kingdom” is about reclaiming something that was once yours and coming back stronger from whatever adversity you were facing. It’s an inspiring power ballad, with lines like “you tried to tell me what to do / I saw the door and kicked it down” and “you took my dreams / but not my name.”
Whether you’re cranking out reps in the gym or studying while listening to the acoustic version of this song, “Kingdom” will be stuck in your head upon first listen.
Here’s Rhodes’s entrance from WrestleMania XL Night 2, if you wanted to start your morning off with good vibes: -Adrianna Gallucci
