CommRadio Intramural Starting Five

By Chris Vadnais

Before I begin I would like to mention I have close to zero knowledge of the hoop skill our club members currently possess. Please take all my opinions with a grain of salt.

With that being said…

Point Guard: Grant Sheets

From the testimonies I've heard, Sheets is a “Flamethrower,” according to Nolan Collery. He can create his own shot at will and I’d bet that his catch-and-shoot is just as good.

Assuming that he can also swing the rock when needed, a consistent scorer is the key to a successful team at such a high level.

Being a sports director also gives him that leadership quality that you need out of a floor general.

NBA Comparison: Cam Thomas with the green light

Shooting Guard: Alec Brown

Known key NBA Podcast member and Ithaca transfer Alec Brown has a past in the hoop game, sources say he averaged 36.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists

Before Michael Porter Jr. came around there was Alec “Get the Rebound” Brown.

I imagine he has a solid base in his shooting form with a high release point, a lethal combo given his height and great for those contested threes and middies.

NBA Comparison: Michael Porter Jr. if he wasn’t 6’10

Small Forward: Chris Vadnais

I like to see myself as a two-way slasher/playmaker who can knock down a catch and shoot three, but preferably I like to get to the rack, especially if the shots aren't falling.

In times of need, I have been known to change my last name to Paul for a while and serve a few flashy dimes to my team.

My off-ball defense is impeccable and I excel at punishing a bad pass with a couple of steals. My background in volleyball has also gifted me a bounce that you just don't see in many kids of my size in IM sports.

NBA Comparison: LeBron but better

Power Forward: Thomas English

I was told one thing about making this list and it was that Thomas English needed to be on it.

I see English as a real post demon, someone who can collapse the defense at will with a downhill drive, and either score or kick it out for an easy bucket. A mean pick-and-roll option

Just a jack of all trades who can take over a game, making others play at his pace.

NBA Comparison: Jokic/Luka if they were Americans

Center: Justin Ciavolella

We’ve talked a lot about offense so far, but now we look at someone who’s going to do the dirty work. When we need someone to protect the rim and clean the glass we turn to Ciavoella.

A double-double machine, maximizing on second-chance points and has killer hook shots for when he’s contested. UNREAL shot-blocking ability.

The only thing holding him back is his relationship with the referees which in the past, is rumored to be not so great. (One career ejection, 9.5 months suspended because he argued with a referee)

NBA Comparison: Robert Williams III (Draymond Green at times)
