College Football Postion U Defense Edition
Coming fresh off giving my “Position U” for every offensive position you already knew I had to do my “Position U” for every defensive position. Without further ado let's get into it.
Defensive Line: Ohio State
Having a great defensive line is key to having a great defense and the talent that has come out of Ohio State over the decade plus has been really good.
Some players that jump out right away are both the Bosa brothers Nick and Joey, Chase Young and Cameron Heyward.
Each of these players have won serious accolades to their name. Young and Joey Bosa both won defensive rookie of the year, Nick Bosa won defensive player of the year in 2022 and Heyward has been selected All-Pro four times.
Ohio State is getting stronger in the defensive line department with this upcoming draft and it will be exciting to see how their future players produce in the NFL.
With these players and their accomplishments in the NFL that is why I crown them as “Defensive line U”
Linebackers: Penn State
When it comes to linebackers and Penn State let me tell you Penn State is loaded with linebackers.
I think it wouldn’t be right if I mention Penn State and linebackers and not mention the number 11. The number is now a Penn State tradition ever since LaVar Arrington wore it in 1997.
Since then four players have worn that number and those players are NaVorro Bowman, Brandon Bell, Micah Parsons and Abdul Carter.
Three of those players ended up playing in the NFL and Carter is about to enter this year's draft where it is looking like he will be a top 10 pick.
Some other Penn State linebackers that were in the NFL over the last 15 years are Sean Lee and Paul Posluszny.
With the future looking bright with Carter entering the draft and the recent linebackers to come out of this university, that is the reason why I think they are “Linebacker U”.
Defensive back U: LSU
In my opinion the defensive back position is the toughest position to play when you go pro, but LSU has produced some great talent from that position.
There is a lot of talent from this university when it comes to the defensive back department, so buckle up. Patrick Peterson, Jamal Adams, Tre’Davious White, Derek Stingley Jr., Grant Delpit and Tyrann Mathieu all came out of this school.
One more thing is Odell Beckham Jr. got recruited as a cornerback, but I think it worked out great that he was a receiver in the NFL.
Just like the number 11 with Penn State the number seven is very iconic within LSU. Offensively Leonard Fournette wore number seven and Ja’Marr Chase was set to wear the number seven in 2020, but he ultimately opted out of the 2020 season and therefore not wearing it.
Defensively however Peterson, Mathieu and Stingley Jr. all wore number seven and they have proved that they earned to wear it all while having stellar college careers.
LSU has had a great run at the defensive back position and that is why I crown them as “Defensive Back U”.
