By Nick LaRosa

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Center For Sexual And Gender Diversity held its National Coming Out Day Celebration on Wednesday at the Hub-Robeson Center. The annual event was put together to emphasize a fun, safe environment of acceptance.

Marina Wolff (second-year), one of the event’s organizers, praised its supportive aspect. “It gives people a very positive experience of coming out and it gives them a more positive look and shows them that they are loved,” Wolff said.

The event was filled with food, music and activities. Attendees were able to customize buttons and pins as well as receive flags, free mom mugs and more.

Assistant director, Kate Rawson, shared her favorite ‘coming out’ activity.

“We have a photo booth set up with different props so people are welcome to use that as [a way of] coming out if they wanted to,” Rawson said.

The organizers created a space allowing for a comfortable, stress-free day, welcoming everyone.

The Center For Sexual And Gender Diversity will be holding events for the rest of October which is LGBTQ+ History Month. Their next event is Monday, Oct. 16 in the Hub at 5 p.m. discussing queer theory.
