Cam McCormick and his nine years

Cam McCormick and all nine years of eligibility

By Jeremy Rose

Cam McCormick has been playing college football since 2016. He entered Oregon with Justin Herbert and graduated from high school as a three-star along in the same class as pros like Jalen Hurts and Nick Bosa.

And he was just granted one more year. So, after his previous eight seasons in college football split between Eugene and Coral Gables, McCormick will return for one (final?) season.

Let me walk you through his first eight seasons of eligibility and see how we got here.

As a freshman in 2016, McCormick redshirted. In year two, he played in 13 games recording six catches including a touchdown. Between 2018 and 2021, McCormick recorded two catches for 14 yards.

These four years were highlighted by complications from a broken leg suffered in early 2018 that kept him out from 2018 to 2020 and a foot injury on his singular catch in 2021.

After appealing for a technical seventh year as a member of the Oregon Ducks football team in 2022, McCormick took his talents to South Beach and transferred to the University of Miami. The appeal had been granted by the PAC-12 but now needed confirmation from the ACC for McCormick to be deemed eligible.

McCormick made his debut for the Hurricanes and recorded 10 catches on the season, including three for scores. In 2023, after another appeal for an eighth season, the tight end recorded eight catches for over 60 yards and no scores.

Now, the 25-year-old will look to elevate his game and posted on his X page that, “The pursuit of excellence has no goal line…” deeming this upcoming 2024 season to be his “Last Ride”.

With a (very long) career of 26 catches for 231 yards and four scores, the super-duper redshirt senior will look to make a wave in his final season and work his way toward the NFL.
