“Doctor Who”

Doctor Who has one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable theme songs in television history. Over the span of decades and countless regenerations, the show's theme has evolved, but it remains central to its identity.

The first episode of the program premiered in November 1963, introducing audiences to a groundbreaking mix of science fiction and adventure.

The original composers were Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire, who inspired one of the first electronic themes on television. The synth arrangements gave a distinct futuristic edge to other productions during that time.

As the 21st century progressed, the theme became more orchestral and cinematic, adding a new dimension to each new doctor. Additionally, the TARDIS’s classic wheezing sound was implemented to emphasize key moments in the plot.

The opening sequence creates anticipation and a sense of mystery before each episode begins, drawing viewers into the endless possibilities of time and space. - Allison Curley

“Stranger Things”

For a show riddled with horror elements throughout, its theme song may be one of its most frightening aspects.

It is an ominous tune that invokes uncertainty and fear in the listener. The song builds and builds with each second it progresses, creating more of a sense of dread within the listener.

It fits perfectly with the tone that the show is going for, with the music invoking uncertainty in the listener, much like the uncertainty that the characters face throughout the show.

The song invokes the fears that the characters face throughout the show, like being stuck inside the Upside Down or coming face to face with a Demogorgon.

It not only has a great effect within the context of the show but is itself a very catchy and epic-sounding tune. It is a song that would be incredible if played by a live orchestra. -Nikolai Wagner
