Best moments from the 2024 Paris Olympics/Paralympics: Sept. 4

By Chris Vadnais

With every Olympic Games that comes around there are bound to be some memorable moments, and this year’s Paris Olympics/Paralympics is no different.

Everyone loves the air pistol

Shooting for a long time has been one of the more overlooked events at the Olympics by the general public, but not this year.

One athlete that caught the eyes of viewers this year was Kim Ye-ji of South Korea, due to the unique eyewear that she and other shooters wear when they compete

The other shooter getting attention for the opposite reason is Yusuf Dikec of Turkey, who went viral for winning silver in the 10m mixed team air pistol event, not using any special equipment and shooting with a hand in his pocket.

Breakdancing came and went

This year introduced breakdancing as an event, and it was interesting, to say the least.

Most of the performances were downright incredible and very entertaining. Unfortunately, one competitor from Australia known as Raygun garnered much attention after scoring a zero for a lackluster performance in comparison to the other athletes.

Sadly, we won’t be seeing more of the event in the foreseeable future, as the sport was removed for the 2028 Games prior to the start of this year’s games.

Ledecky and Marchand can’t stop winning

Swimmer Kate Ledecky of the US has now earned the most individual golds for a female Olympian of all time with eight, and Swimmer Léon Marchand of France came away as the only athlete to earn four golds at this year’s Olympics, with five total.

USA Men’s Basketball greats put on a show

The USA Basketball team was heavily favored to win much like any other year, but it took much more effort than many thought.

Long-time legends LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant led a 17-point comeback against Serbia in the Semifinals, along with a close victory in the finals against France.

Ihar Boki is a Paralympic legend

Boki, a swimmer from Belarus became the most decorated male Paralympian of all time, earning his 21st gold medal yesterday, setting a world record in the Men's 200m Medley while doing so.

Boki also claimed gold in all five events he participated in this year. He has competed in every Paralympics since 2012.

Jessica Long reaches 30 medals

Legendary swimmer Jessica Long from the US won gold in the 400m freestyle to capture a 17th gold and her 30th overall.

She and Australian Ella Jones had an incredible race to cement her further into Paralympic history.
