Georgia Bulldogs running on to the field

Around the SEC: Week 7

By Ethan Ellis

Week 8 of the college football season is here and the SEC is once again dominating the NCAA football season with six teams ranked inside the AP Top 25. Here’s a rundown of the top teams in the division:

No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs

After some doubts in response to their performance vs. Auburn, the Georgia Bulldogs seem to be back on track to win their third National Championship in a row.

Georgia hosted the then-ranked No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats and showed their pure domination against their SEC rival. In a 51-13 win, tight end Brock Bowers had 132 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

Bowers is undeniably the face of this offense right now and is putting this team in a prime position for the postseason.

Next game: No. 1 Georgia at Vanderbilt

No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama hasn’t had the best season of its storied program, but the Crimson Tide is still holding strong at 11th.

Their one loss of the season came against Texas a few weeks ago but almost suffered a crushing upset this past week. The Crimson Tide seem to be cursed when it comes to playing at Texas A&M (where they were upset just two years ago).

Alabama had two turnovers in the game and will have to clean this up down the road if they want to make a New Year's 6 bowl game.

Next game: Arkansas at No. 11 Alabama

No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels

Apart from a loss to Alabama, Ole Miss is having a huge season for their program and their offense is much to thank.

The team is averaging 41.7 points per game and has a somewhat easy schedule down the road.

Apart from No. 1 Georgia, the rest of Ole Miss’ schedule is against unranked opponents. Expect the Rebels to be contenders for some big bowl games toward the end of the season.

Next game: Bye

No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers

The Volunteers have had some convincing wins this year, granted many of them were against lower-level opponents.

Aside from their loss against Florida, Tennessee has beaten their opponents by at least 17 points. They’re currently coming off a big win over South Carolina but have an even bigger game coming up this weekend.

Its offense is still going to have to step it up. Currently, the Vols sit 70th in the nation in passing yards per game and 24th in average points.

Next game: Texas A&M at No. 19 Tennessee

No. 22 LSU Tigers

Potentially one of the most disappointing teams of the season, the Tigers are working on salvaging their season. They started off on the wrong foot after being blown out by Florida State and have had an up-and-down season since then.

They currently have some momentum after a ranked win over Missouri, 49-39. They have a Heisman candidate in quarterback Jayden Daniels and have what it takes to turn their season around. With 1,969 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns on the season, the sky’s the limit with this offense.

Next Game: Auburn at No. 22 LSU

No. 24 Kentucky Wildcats

After suffering their first loss of the season vs Georgia this past week, the Wildcats will need a big game this weekend to get back on track.

While the loss is not too much of a surprise given that it’s the best team in the nation, the margin of loss was. Kentucky struggled to get past the down markers in the game with only 12 first down to Georgia’s 33.

They have a hard schedule down the road, so their NY6 bowl game chances are murky at best.

Next game: Missouri at No. 24 Kentucky
