The National Hockey League is back in action for the 2023-2024 season, promising fans another year of spectacular hockey moments, fierce rivalries, and the emergence of some new young stars are now on display.

There have been many unique headlines in the first couple weeks of the season and some players that have made their mark early on.

Auston Matthews has looked incredible to start the season and looks like a completely different player than he was last year, this guy wants to score goals.

On opening night for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Matthews netted a hat trick and led his team to a late comeback win versus the Montreal Canadiens.

He would not stop there in the opening week of the season and he would get another hat trick the following game versus the Minnesota Wild in a high-scoring 7-4 victory.

Matthews looks to lead this Leafs squad this season by scoring goals on a nightly basis and perhaps get his team over the hump this season.

On Tuesday, goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury picked up his 545th NHL victory over his hometown Montreal Canadiens in a 5-2 victory.

Fleury grew up about 55 miles away from the Bell Centre and the fans were very happy to watch him get to that milestone despite beating their Canadiens.

With this victory, Fleury is now six wins shy of Patrick Roy’s total of 551, which would make him the second-winningest goalie of all time behind Martin Brodeur.

One of the big surprises so far this season has been the hot start of the Detroit Red Wings led by Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat.

Hockeytown has been very pleased with the Red Wing's 5-1-1 start to the season and hopes that this young team can keep buzzing.

DeBrincat leads the NHL with nine goals and Larkin is three points behind New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes for the league lead in points.

It's early in the season, but the Red Wings should be excited about their start and will look to continue this good energy throughout the season and perhaps get back to the postseason.

This past week the biggest headline in the NHL seemed to be the debut of the Frozen Frenzy on ESPN.

On Tuesday, all 32 NHL teams were in action with 16 games having staggered starting times.

The first game started at 6 p.m. EST. and the last game started at 11 p.m., EST.

ESPN Analysts Kevin Weekes and John Buccigross were very entertaining and brought a lot of energy to the broadcast for the fans to stay engaged in the action.
