Around the links: March 8

By Andrew Matz

The weather might be cold right now but it is starting to get warm. As we move towards spring, we see the golf season really start to open up.

PGA

We’ll start with the most well-known tour, the PGA. There is a lot going on right now as we approach some of the biggest tournaments of the year. Last week saw the Cognizant Classic at the PGA National Membership Club.

Joe Highsmith pulled away with the win, shooting 19 under on the weekend and seven under in the final round.

This week is the Arnold Palmer invitation to Bay Hill Country Club and the Puerto Rico Open at Grand Reserve Golf Club.

While these are great tournaments, there is a huge one coming up next week as the Players will be taking place. It will be a great week with tons of top players competing.

Ludvig Aberg is the current FedEx Cup leader with 978 FedEx Cup points, while Sepp Straka finds himself in second place and Hideki Matsuyama is in 3rd

TGL

TGL has been a huge success so far this year, and their season is winding down as they will be playing for the championship over the next two weeks. Well, we'll see some great matchups as Los Angeles Golf Club will go against New York Golf Club on Monday, March 17, and The Bay Golf Club will go against Atlanta Drive Golf Club on Tuesday, March 18.

The winners will face off in a three-game series starting on March 24. The TGL was in its first year, and they have found huge success. Both Jupiter Links GC and Boston Common Golf did not make it into the playoffs.

LIV Tour

LIV is back in action this week after taking a break for the last couple of weeks. They are playing at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling, Hong Kong.

So far, Legion XIII is in first place with a total of 56 points on the season. Fireball GC is in second place with 40 points and Crushers GC is in third with 24 points.

LIV has the locked zone, which decides the individual championship. Adrian Meronk is in the lead with 44.66 points this season, while Masters winner Jon Rahm finds himself in second place with 41 points and Joaquin Niemann is in third with 40 points.

Other News

With one the biggest shocks, it was announced that Tiger Woods will not be playing in the Players Championship. It is Woods’s final year of automatic bid eligibility for The Players Championship.

We will likely not see one of the most well-known players in golf takes the tee box again until the Masters in Augusta.

Along with everything going on around the golf world, we are starting to get towards golf season. The weather is getting warmer and golfers are all getting ready to get back out on the links.

With so much to watch and play, it is a great time for all golf fans.
