The Big Ten Basketball Conference has roared back to life, and as Week 1 concludes, many impactful games have set the stage for an exciting season.

In a stunning upset, James Madison secured a notable victory over No. 4 Michigan State in overtime. The final score saw James Madison with a three-point lead, clinching the win in a game filled with remarkable plays and pivotal moments.

Key Players for James Madison included Michael Green III, who contributed 13 points off the bench, T.J. Bickerstaff with a crucial push-shot to tie the game, and Terrance Edwards Jr., who scored 20 points and added five overtime points.

A critical moment came with Raekwon Horton's three-pointer in the final seconds of overtime, extending JMU's lead to three points.

Despite an early 20-7 lead by James Madison, Michigan State's Tyson Walker made a significant impact, scoring 33 points and sparking a comeback. The game saw intense drama, including Bickerstaff's game-tying push-shot in regulation and Walker's stumble leading to overtime.

The historic win marked possibly the greatest result in James Madison's basketball program history.

Purdue dominated Samford with a commanding 98-45 victory, showcasing their prowess on both ends of the court. Top performers for Purdue included Zach Edey with a double-double, Camden Heide with 13 points and with both Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer with 12 points each.

Purdue's performance was a statement of readiness for the new season, tying a school record with their 25th consecutive regular-season win over a non-conference opponent.

The team demonstrated a potent offense, scoring 98 points, and robust defense, limiting Samford to only 45 points. Purdue's three-point shooting was exceptional, making 16 three-pointers, with Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer playing key roles.

The game was marked by Purdue's first-half dominance, leading 51-17 at halftime. Zach Edey's versatility shone as he posted his 40th career double-double, showcasing his impact on both ends of the court. Coach Bucky McMillan of Samford acknowledged Purdue as a formidable team, praising their shooting and passing abilities.

The win positioned Purdue for success in the upcoming season, maintaining a strong non-conference record.

In the season opener for both teams, No. 25 Illinois secured an 80-52 victory over Eastern Illinois. Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn led the scoring with 18 points, supported by Terrence Shannon Jr. with 16 points and Luke Goode with nine points, showcasing a well-rounded offensive effort.

Eastern Illinois, playing without top scorer Caleb Donaldson, saw Kooper Jacobi's double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. However, they struggled with shooting, finishing at 29 percent from the field.

Illinois faced early shooting woes, missing 13 of their first 14 three-point attempts, but turned the game around with a 17-0 run.

Individual performances, including Gibbs-Lawhorn's efficient shooting and Shannon Jr.'s strong second-half start, highlighted Illinois's resilience. The game showcased Illinois's improved three-point shooting in the second half and Eastern Illinois's challenges without their top scorer.

As Week 1 wraps up, the Big Ten Conference has treated basketball fans to thrilling matchups and unexpected outcomes, setting the stage for a season filled with anticipation and excitement.
