April 10, 2024 wrap -- what's exciting about the Blue/White game

By Gavin Rollman

Earlier this week, I got a chance to speak to a few students planning on going to this Saturday’s Blue-White Game, where we’ll see our own Nittany Lions play against one another on the gridiron.

The annual spring scrimmage is set to kick off at 2 p.m., and fans can enter Beaver Stadium as early as noon. Just last year, in 2023, an estimated 63,000 fans were in attendance, the ninth time the game has drawn more than 60,000 fans.

Third-year Penn State student studying chemistry, Brett Wilson, said, “It reminds me back in high school where we would kind of get together for a pickup game ourselves, [but] instead of high schoolers, it’s really good football players, so I’m definitely excited to see it.”

Penn State head coach James Franklin has said that he plans to make this year’s Blue-White Game “as competitive as possible,” and will separate next year’s projected starters into two evenly matched teams.

Fourth-year Penn State student studying broadcast journalism, Sean Romeo, said, “And after the years go by you kinda realize, it’s not totally exciting, but it’s a good time to go hang out with friends since I have friends on campus now. It’s a lot of fun to just go with people and hang out; if the weather is good, 'cause I’ve had a couple of Blue and White games where it was 45 degrees and rainy and that is not fun.”

The game will also be aired live on the Big Ten Network, but admission will be free to all who show out.
