
After The Whistle District 6 & Penn State Sports Weekly Recap: March 19, 2025
After the Whistle's action-packed show covered both District 6 and Penn State Sports.
Girls Basketball
- Norwin High School traveled to Altoona High School for the first round of the 6A playoffs. Altoona came back in the second half to win the game 49-38. The Mountain Lions playoff journey would come to an end after a loss to Garnet Valley in the second round.
- The Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers hosted the Indiana Little Indians in a home playoff game in the 5A bracket. Hollidaysburg took down Indiana with a 43-34 win and advanced to the second round. The Golden Tigers went on to defeat York Suburban 51-37 in the second round before losing to South Fayette 70-52 in the quarterfinals.
- Bishop Guilfoyle hosted Clarion-Limestone in the first round of the 1A playoffs. The Marauders dominated the Lions taking the win, 62-19. Bishop Guilfoyle continued to be dominant, defeating Aniquis Academy 58-27 and Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy 66-48. Bishop Guilfoyle will go on to play Bishop Caroll in the quarterfinals on March 22nd.
Boys Basketball
- The Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders hosted the Bishop Canevin Crusaders in the first round of the 3A playoffs. The Marauders took down the Crusaders 57-38 to advance to the second round. Bishop Guilfoyle's run would quickly come to an end with a 55-47 loss to South Allegheny in the second round.

- 172 weight class: Asher Cunningham of State College secured the championship title by defeating Bode Marlow of Thomas Jefferson with a 12-6 decision.
- 160 weight class: Luke Sipes of Altoona finished as the runner-up, falling to Collin Gaj of Quakertown in an 11-2 major decision.
- 121 weight class: Braiden Weaver of Altoona clinched third place with a 5-1 decision over Leo Joseph of Latrobe.
AA Wrestling Individual State Championships
- 133 weight class: Caden Judice of Bald Eagle finished as the runner-up, falling to Aaron Seidel of Northern Lebanon by technical fall, 21-6.
- 189 weight class: Caleb Close of Bald Eagle secured second place, losing to Adam Waters of Faith Christian with a major decision of 11-1.
- 107 weight class: Keegan Bassett of Bishop McCort placed fourth after a 15-5 major decision loss to Carter Chunko of Saucon Valley.
- 114 weight class: Eli Herring of Bishop McCort finished fourth, losing by decision to Sam Wolford of Northern Lebanon, 9-5.
- 139 weight class: Sam Herring of Bishop McCort secured fourth place, after a 4-2 decision loss to Camden Baum of Bishop McDevitt.
- 145 weight class: Matthew Smith of Midd-West finished fourth, losing by major decision to Hudson Hohman of Grove City, 13-3.
- 172 weight class: Brady Collins of Clearfield placed fourth, after a 3-1 decision loss to Gage Wentzel of Montoursville.
- 285 weight class: Caleb Rodriguez of Bishop McCort finished fourth, losing by fall to Rowan Holmes of Somerset in 1:03.

On March 18, the Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 10-5 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Bryce Molinaro and Cole Wagner each contributed two hits and two RBIs, while the Penn State pitching staff combined for a season-high of 16 strikeouts.
