As the calendar turns to February, the sports calendar continues to heat up. Both District Six and Penn State had some big games last week.

Boys Basketball

  • The Greater Johnstown Trojans beat the Tyrone Golden Eagles 59-46 to continue their undefeated season. The Trojans have won 17 straight games and remain undefeated. Trojans senior Donte Tisinger set the record for the most points in program history, with 1,735 points during his career.

  • State College defended their home turf as they knocked off the reigning 6A state champions, Central York. The loss was only the second for the Panthers. Ben Na-tal set the all-time scoring record with 1,622 points.

Girls Basketball

  • Greater Johnstown completed the sweep of a varsity doubleheader against Tyrone. The Trojans won 43-36.

  • The Golden Tigers of Hollidaysburg beat the Bishop Carroll Lady Huskies 64-38 at home. In the first quarter, senior Bella Vent scored 1,000 career points for Hollidaysburg.

Wrestling

  • Central Mountain continued their undefeated season with a 44-18 win over State College. The Wildcats won nine of the 13 matches during the dual.

Penn State Wrestling

  • No. 1 Penn State beat No. 2 Iowa 30-8 at the Bryce Jordan Center. The victory marked the 66th straight dual meet win for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State Lacrosse

  • Penn State took down Colgate in their season opener with a score of 14-9. The Nittany Lions got their revenge on the Raiders, who upset them in the season-opening game last year.
