After The Whistle District 6 & Penn State Sports Weekly Recap: February 26, 2025

After the Whistle covered various high school and Penn State sports this week.

Boys Basketball

    • Bishop Guilfoyle took down Central Cambria by a score of 69-52 last Friday. This ended the Red Devils’ season as the Marauders moved on to the District 6 3A semifinals to face Penn Cambria.
    • Bishop Guilfoyle followed up their quarterfinals performance with a 76-68 victory over Penn Cambria on Tuesday. They’ll face Forest Hills for the District 6 3A Championship on Friday.
    • The State College Little Lions defeated the Mifflin County Huskies by a score of 44-40 to win the District 6 6A Championship last Tuesday. The Little Lions will host McDowell for state playoff seeding on Friday.

Girls Basketball

    • Altoona beat State College by a score of 41-37 to win the District 6 6A Championship last Friday. The Mountain Lions will host the loser of Norwin and Upper St. Clair next Friday.
    • Bishop Guilfoyle defeated Williamsburg 61-45 in the District 6 1A semifinals last Saturday. The Marauders went on to face Bishop Carroll in the District Championship on Wednesday.

Hockey

    • Altoona took down Westmont Hilltop in a high-scoring thriller that resulted in an 8-6 Mountain Lion victory last Thursday. Altoona will face Central Cambria next week, while Westmont Hilltop will face Forest Hills.

Penn State Hockey

    • Penn State upset top-ranked Michigan State, sweeping them by scores of 2-2 (shootout win) and 3-2 on the road last weekend. They’ll return home to face second-ranked Minnesota for their final series of the regular season this weekend.

Penn State Wrestling

    • Penn State defeated American by a score of 50-3 in the Nittany Lions final home dual meet of the season last Friday. The Nittany Lions will travel to Evanston, Illinois for the Big Ten championship this weekend.

Penn State Men's Lacrosse

    • Penn State defeated Navy 13-7 last Saturday following an overtime loss to No. 10 Princeton the week before. The Nittany Lions will travel to face No. 13 Yale on Saturday.
Penn State THON

THON took place this past weekend in the BJC.
