After The Whistle District 6 & Penn State Sports Weekly Recap: February 19, 2025

After the Whistle covered various high school and Penn State sports this week.


Wrestling

  • Bishop McCort dominated District 6 2A championships. The Crimson Crushers won seven of the 13 weight classes on Saturday. Eli Herring won his match in the ultimate tie-breaker.
  • Also on Saturday, Altoona won the District 6 3A title. The Mountain Lions scored 181 which was 2.5 more than Central Mountain.

Bocce

  • A new sport we covered this week was Bocce. On Friday, Bellefonte traveled to Penns Valley for their final game of the regular season. The Rams defeated Bellefonte 9-4.
  • On Monday, Bellefonte welcomed State College for another Bocce match. The Little Lions edged out the Raiders 3-1 in what was the final game of the season for both teams.

Penn State Men's Hockey

  • It was another great weekend on the ice as the Nittany Lions continued their winning streak making it four games. A two-point night on Saturday from sophomore Aiden Fink gave him the lead in points in the country.

Penn State Men's Lacrosse

  • It was another big game for Matt Traynor, scoring another five goals in the game versus Princeton. His performance wasn’t enough though as the Nittany Lions lost to Princeton in overtime 11-10.

Girls Basketball

  • Bishop Guilfoyle dominated against Juniata Valley winning 57-19. The Marauders will face-off against Williamsburg in the next round of the Single A playoffs.
  • Tyrone hosted Penn Cambria in a game that saw a ton of action. Plenty of fouls and lead changes allowed the Panthers to win 67-52.

Boys Basketball

  • To start the first round of the District 6 playoffs, Penns Valley defeated Marion Center 63-54. The Rams will play Forest Hills on Friday Night.
  • Hollidaysburg hosted Central Mountain in the first round and took them out by a score of 60-27. They will face the Greater Johnstown Trojans for the District 6 5A championship.

Penn State Women's Basketball

  • It was a tough loss for the Lady Lions who fell to the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday. Gracie Merkle recorded another double-double making it 12 on the season for her.
