After The Whistle covered various sports this week at both Penn State and local high schools.

Girls Basketball

    • Led by strong performances by Morgan Ruggery and Anberlyn Petrecca, the now 20-2 Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders pillaged their way to a huge 67-28 victory over the 14-8 Penns Valley Rams.

Boys Basketball

    • After the last meeting between these two teams, which saw Penns Valley 71-59 victory, the Bearcats took the win in the most recent game. With a close score of 61-59, Huntingdon just barely edged out the win against this Penns Valley Rams.
    • Despite Bellefonte’s best efforts, the Marauders would not be denied an astounding 71-44 road win. Moving to 18-3, Bishop Guilfoyle now looks to their yet to be determined playoff matchup.
Wrestling

Wrestling

  • Despite four teams competing for a spot in the championship, Bishop McCort and Faith Christian came away with the opportunity for such following 61-6 and 35-23 victories respectively.
  • Back and forth action was the story of this tense matchup. However, the Lions got the last laugh, as they routed the Crimson Crushers en-route to a 34-25 win and a 2A State Championship title.

Penn State Wrestling

    • Penn State continued its national victory tour, with featured performances from Mitchell Messenbrink and Josh Barr. Riding on the back of five technical falls, the Nittany Lions defeated the Terrapins 35-10.

State College Hockey

Hockey

    • Though a close game overall, the Little Lions proved just too much for the Mountain Lions to manage. With a 6-4 victory, the game within the walls of Penn State’s Pegula Ice Arena was decided by State College.
