Kanye Clary vs. Wisconsin

A new home: Kanye Clary transfers to Mississippi State

Former Penn State guard Kanye Clary has found a new home, as the Virginia Beach native will be taking his talents to the SEC, joining Mississippi State per his own Instagram page.

Clary had a strong start to his 2023-24 season, where he led the Nittany Lions in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game. Clary was being touted as one of the most improved players in all of college basketball, increasing his total by over 13 points per game from his freshman campaign.

Clary’s season would change however when he went down with an injury against Minnesota on January 27, forcing the sophomore out of the lineup for two games. The Nittany Lions would go on to win both of those contests against Rutgers and Indiana on the road, while also showcasing more movement on offense with Clary out of the lineup.

Clary made his return to the lineup on Feb. 8 in a win against Iowa, but saw his role diminish drastically, only playing 18 minutes and coming off the bench. This is the role he would stay in for the next two games against Northwestern and Michigan State, both of which were losses for the blue and white.

With Clary’s numbers and role growing smaller and smaller, he was mysteriously ruled out for a road game against Nebraska on Feb. 17 and did not travel with the team to Lincoln for the 68-49 defeat.

In the following press conference on Monday, Feb. 19, head coach Mike Rhoades announced that Clary was no longer with the team and stated it was a “coach’s decision.” Penn State would go 4-3 in the games following the announcement of Clary’s removal from the program.

Clary will now look to get his career back on track in Starkville, joining a Bulldogs team that went 21-14 this season and made the NCAA Tournament, before falling to Michigan State in the Round of 64.
