2025 Beanpot recap
For the first time in two years someone other than Northeastern has won the Beanpot. This year's champion is Boston University.
As always, the battle for Beantown was thrilling. The Terriers defeated the Boston College Eagles 4-1 to win the trophy.
While the championship was great, the games leading up to it were also exciting. The tournament started on Monday, Feb. 3, when Boston University played Harvard and Boston College played Northeastern.
The Crimson were no match for the Terriers as they would defeat them 7-1 to advance to the championship game on Feb. 10.
An early powerplay goal, scored by Casey Severo, would give Harvard the 1-0 lead over Harvard but that would be the only tally the Crimson would get.
The Terriers would tie it late in the first on a goal from Devin Kaplan.
It was 1-1 heading into the second and that is when Boston University would begin to dominate. They would score five of their seven goals in the second.
The Terriers got one more in the third to advance to the Beanpot Championship. Cole Hutson and Kaplan both had two goals in the game.
Boston College was just as dominant as Boston University in the second game of the night as the Eagles would defeat Northeastern 8-2.
BC dominated the entire game scoring four goals in the first, two in the second and three in the third.
Every goal the Eagles scored was scored by a different player and Ryan Leonard had the most points with three on the night.
The matchups were set for Feb. 10 Northeastern and Harvard would play in the consolation game and Boston University and Boston College would play for the championship.
We saw a great game in the consolation match as Harvard would come out on top beating Northeastern 4-3.
After winning the tournament last year the Huskies were the worst team this year.
Northeastern would start the scoring on a goal from Jack Williams, but then the Crimson would score three unanswered goals.
Northeastern would cut the lead down to one before Harvard would score the dagger. The Huskies would get one more but that was all they could do.
One of the biggest problems for Northeastern in this game was the penalty kill as Harvard scored all of their goals on the powerplay.
The next game would decide the winner. Both Boston University and Boston College are ranked in the top ten in PairWise rankings.
Gabe Perreault would open the scoring making 1-0 Eagles, but it was all Terriers after that.
They wouldn’t get on the board until the second period but put on an ambush when they did as Brandon Svoboda would score and then Hutson would score just 1:10 after. The Hutson goal was the game-winner, but the Terriers wouldn’t stop there.
Cole Eiserman would add the insurance marker in the third and Gavin McCarthy would ice the game with an empty-net goal.
With that, the 72nd Beanpot would come to a close.
Boston University would steal the Beanpot for this year and Hutson would be named MVP of the tournament. He had three goals and two assists in the two Beanpot games.
