“Dirt Cheap” by Cody Johnson
I’ve been on a Cody Johnson kick recently, and I’m deeply regretting not getting tickets when he came to the Bryce Jordan Center. Out of all of his songs, I’ve had “Dirt Cheap” on repeat the most.
“Dirt Cheap” details a guy who’s been approached to sell his farm to guys who want to turn the land into something more suburban, but the guy won’t agree to it. He talks about his daughter on the porch swing after school, burying his dog in the backyard and proposing to his wife on his lawn.
This song makes me cry every single time I listen to it. I’m from the country part of New Jersey, and so many people have stories similar to this one. Johnson is able to capture so many years of nostalgia in a four-minute ballad. - Adrianna Gallucci
