Women’s College Hockey Series of the Week: No.13 Yale vs. No.12 Colgate

We are officially in the second half of the women’s college hockey season. Star players matter more, games matter more and series matter more. And this game could decide who plays in the Women’s Frozen Four at the end of the season. This game is No.13 Yale vs. No.12 Colgate.

The 2025-2026 Yale Women’s hockey team has been good, but nothing extraordinary. The Bulldogs currently have a 14-7-0 overall record and a 9-5-0 record in the Eastern College Hockey Conference (ECAC).

Yale’s quality wins this year have come over Northeastern, Dartmouth and the Bulldogs have already gotten the best of the Colgate Raiders by a score of 5-4 in overtime.

The Yale Bulldogs are fortunate enough to have one of the best goal scorers in the nation on their team. Senior forward Carina DiAntonio leads the team in goals with 14 and is 10th in the nation in goals per game with .67.

In the world of assists, Yale has also been a national force. Senior forward Jordan Ray, who is first on the team in assists with 17, ranks 16th in the country in assists per game with .76.

The one spot on Yale’s roster that is somewhat weaker is goaltender. Anna Phillips, a junior, ranks 14th in goals against average with a 2.004 and 36th in save percentage with .918.

Unlike Yale, and despite their ranking, Colgate has been far more disappointing. The Raiders have an overall record of 12-10-1 with an ECAC record of 7-4-1. Colgate's key victories this year have come against Boston University in a sweep, along with Maine and Cornell.

Colgate’s leading goal scorers are also among the top goal scorers in the nation. Senior forward Elyssa Biederman is tied with junior forward Emma Pais for the team lead in goals with 15. Biederman ranks 11th in goals per game .65 and Pais is right behind her on the national rankings with the same average.

Just like Yale, Colgate's weakest link is the goaltender. Brooke Davis, a freshman, ranks 42nd in save percentage with a .91,4 and she is outside of the top 25 in goals against average.

For Yale, as previously stated, the goaltender play has to improve to pull off the sweep. In its first matchup against Colgate, Phillips struggled to cover the crease along with controlling rebounds. If she can improve these factors this weekend, Colgate will have to really work to put the puck in the net.

If Colgate wants a similar result this weekend, Biederman will have to play a similar game to the first matchup against Yale. In Colgate’s win over the Bulldogs in October, Biederman was able to produce a shutout.

This Top 15 showdown is scheduled for Friday, January 16th at 6:00. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus.
