Weekly playlist "Luna" - The Smashing Pumpkins
As the autumn leaves start to fall, it is time to put The Smashing Pumpkins back on listening rotation. This particular song, “Luna” deals with themes of intimate connection and longing for love, coming from their 1993 album “Siamese Dream.”
The instrumentation is laid back, with more emphasis on lead singer Billy Corgan’s vocals. However, when the relaxing production swells up and the drums kick in, it evokes a yearning, almost nostalgic feeling.
The lyrics are not complicated by any means, but send the message of pure devotion to a loved one. The repetition in the outro amplifies the dreamy atmosphere and creates beautiful imagery for the listener.
Additionally, the track matches perfectly with the era of indie rock that was popular at the time, and has the type of sound you would hear in a coming-of-age film.
After hearing this song for the first time, a deeper browse of their discography is necessary. - Allison Curley
