Trump visits the UK

UNITED KINGDOM — President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump had a two-day visit to the United Kingdom Wednesday and Thursday for Trump’s second state visit to the country.

The visit began with a greeting from the Prince and Princess of Wales as they landed at the Windsor estate on Marine One. King Charles III and Queen Camilla then greeted Trump and Melania, and they proceeded to ride in carriages to a private lunch at Windsor Castle.

At Windsor Castle, the president and first lady viewed a specially curated display filled with items related to the history of the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.

On the second day of Trump’s visit, he and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held closed-door meetings at Chequers. There, the two signed an agreement between the U.S. and the U.K. called the “Tech Prosperity Deal.”

Also during the meetings, topics such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Gaza were discussed.

In Windsor, Melania joined Kate Middleton for a visit to the royal family’s Frogmore College, where they met with a group of scouts.

They departed Chequers Thursday and boarded Marine One to Stansted Air Base, where Air Force One took them back to the United States.

Protests were held in response to Trump’s visit, including projections of images of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein onto Windsor Castle; those responsible were arrested.

A much larger protest included thousands of people gathering in Parliament Square at an event organized by the Stop Trump Coalition.

Following the visit, King Charles is expected to be invited to the White House next year to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
