NFL: Best bets for Week 6
The following article contains information that is not representative of the opinions of CommRadio. It solely expresses the opinions of Owen Buchholz.
Pittsburgh Steelers moneyline (-258) vs. Cleveland Browns
After allowing more than 30 points in their first two games, the Pittsburgh Steelers struggled to find their footing on the defensive side of the ball. However, the Steelers have shown signs of their signature Steel Curtain defense as of late.
The Steelers forced six turnovers and had 11 sacks in their last two games, propelling the team to a 3-1 record heading into their Week 5 bye.
Coming off the bye, the team will host the 1-4 Cleveland Browns at home, led by newly promoted rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel played decently in his NFL debut last week against the Minnesota Vikings, throwing for 190 passing yards and two touchdowns but had just a 57.6% completion percentage.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has taken advantage of inexperienced rookie quarterbacks in his 18-year NFL career. Tomlin has a 26-6 record against rookie quarterbacks and went 2-0 against them in 2024.
The combination of a drastically improved defense and a dominant head coach will be a scary test for Dillon Gabriel and the Cleveland Browns.
Matthew Stafford over 262.5 yds (-115) vs. Baltimore Ravens
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford enters Week 6 as the league leader in passing yards. Stafford has thrown for 1,503 yards, averaging over 300 yards per game. In his previous two games, Stafford has been red-hot, throwing for 375 and 389 yards passing.
On the other side of the ball, he’ll be facing a damaged Baltimore Ravens defense who have been struggling against the pass all year. The Ravens were missing four defensive starters in last week's game against the Houston Texans and may be missing all four of them again this Sunday.
Linebacker Roqun Smith, safety Kyle Hamilton and cornerback Marlon Humphrey were all named all-pros in 2024. All three of them were sidelined last week and are listed as questionable for the upcoming game. Starting cornerback Chidobe Awuzie was also listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.
Through five games, the Ravens have allowed 262.4 passing yards per game, ranking 31st in the league. That number is nearly identical to Stafford’s passing-yard prop, giving him a strong opportunity to take full advantage of the battered Ravens defense in week 6.
Seattle Seahawks moneyline (+100) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are fresh off a huge prime-time win against the Kansas City Chiefs to improve to 4-1 on the season. The key to their success has been running the ball, ranking fifth in the league in rushing yards per game. But this Sunday, they’ll face a team that’s been terrific against the run.
The Seattle Seahawks are ranked third in the league in rushing yards allowed per game. Along with that, they allow just barely over three yards per carry to opposing rushers.
Outside linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence is expected to make his return to practice this week after missing last week's game. If he plays, he’ll improve an already stellar defensive line that’ll only be more difficult to run against.
If the Seahawks shut down the run, it will force Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence to throw the ball. Lawrence has struggled passing the ball, already throwing five interceptions and has a completion percentage of just 60.4%.
This game will come down to the Jaguars ability to run the ball. But with a healthy d-line, it’s going to be difficult for them to do so.
