MLB 2025 best potential World Series matchups

By Owen Buchholz

4. Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

A Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series has a great appeal from a market and media perspective, but would it catch the eyes of MLB fans?

The Dodgers have made the NLCS three times out of the last five years, winning the pennant twice already. Their team is great, but fans know that. The MLB fans are tired of the Dodgers’ dominance in October and are looking for a new team to take over.

The Dodgers are still one of the most profitable franchises, while the Blue Jays are the only foreign baseball team in the MLB with one of the biggest fan bases. There really is no big storyline if these teams meet in the World Series, apart from the idea that money buys you wins.

Both franchises are top five in salary payroll on their players. Similar to last year, this would just be a talent-driven matchup without much anticipation. It lacks the underdog story that these other potential series have to offer.

3. Milwaukee Brewers vs. Toronto Blue Jays

With the Brewers having a stacked bullpen and the Blue Jays having the best batting offense in the MLB, this could be a potential offense-versus-defense series.

The Brewers’ bullpen has the second lowest ERA and has the most wins amongst the entire MLB. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have had the highest batting average and the most hits. Both teams rely heavily on their strengths, which is what helped make them the two top seeds in their conferences

This series has the highest potential to go to seven games because of how evenly matched these two clubs are. The championship would come down to which of the team's strengths outperforms the other.

2. Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Highlighted by the two best long-ball hitters in baseball, this matchup has the teams with the two best odds to win the pennant.

Cal Raleigh and Shohei Ohtani both have the potential to be named MVP for their conferences. Raleigh finished atop the league in home runs with 60, while Ohtani was third with 55. These hitters are the root for their teams, but they're not the only guys driving in runs.

Veterans like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman for the Dodgers contribute significantly on offense and are both hungry for their second straight title. For the Mariners, young phenom Julio Rodriguez is looking to take home a championship that will cement his status as one of the top players in the MLB.

If fan’s are into a high-scoring matchup, then this is the World Series they should want to see.

1. Milwaukee Brewers vs. Seattle Mariners

The Brewers and Mariners are two of just five teams who have never won a World Series title. This matchup could mark the end of a long awaited drought.

In 1982, the Brewers made their first and only World Series since their founding in 1969, where they lost to the St Louis Cardinals in seven games. The Mariners, on the other hand, have never even been to the world series, even after having an MLB regular season record of 116 wins back in 2001.

It’s not just the historical aspect of this potential series that makes it No. 1, but also the possibility of being a hard-fought matchup.

The Brewers have had the top bullpen in all of baseball. However, they're going to have their hands full with Seattle, who hit 238 home runs in the regular season.

The atmosphere in their respective stadiums would be electric. Fans have been waiting almost half a century for their beloved ball-club to win their first pennant, but only one can come out on top.
