Gen V episoe 4 of season 2 still

After Jordan’s speech in the previous episode, we find them and Marie in Dean Cipher’s office. Because of all the news and talk about the attack on Cate, Cipher suggests something wild: a brawl between Marie and Jordan.

Of course, Marie and Jordan are against the idea, but Dean Cipher is persistent. He tells them that if they refuse, Emma will be sent back to Elmira.

In a desperate attempt to get out of the brawl, Marie and Jordan seek help from Cate. When Cate tells them that Dean Cipher is hiding something in his house, Jordan teams up with her to investigate.

Marie takes a power training session with Cipher to give Cate and Jordan time to break into his house. Although Marie isn’t thrilled about the session, she strengthens her powers and does things she didn’t believe she could do before. When Cipher brings out a goat and tells Marie to levitate it, things go wrong — the goat dies.

Most importantly, during this training, Marie discovers a critical secret: Dean Cipher doesn’t have any powers.

Cate and Jordan manage to sneak into Cipher’s house. They find what appears to be a burned-up body in some sort of chamber. They take a picture, but when they get closer, the body opens its eyes, and they promptly run away.

Marie meets up with Cate, Emma and Jordan to tell them what she’s discovered about Cipher. They devise a plan to expose him during the fight.

At the fight, Cate keeps Cipher busy in his suite. Meanwhile, Emma uses her powers to shrink through the building’s pipes and place a tiny camera in the room. When the water starts flowing, her life is at risk, but she narrowly escapes and manages to place the camera without being seen.

In the locker room before the fight, Marie and Jordan share a heartfelt conversation. Neither of them wants to go through with it. Jordan says he’s been afraid of something like this for most of his life, and Marie comforts him.

Based on the crowd’s chants, it’s clear Jordan isn’t the favorite. Just before the fight begins, as they stand in the ring, Marie and Jordan shock the crowd by sharing a kiss.

Cate and Cipher continue their conversation, during which Cate lies and tells him her powers have fully returned — stronger than ever. Cipher tells Cate he knows she broke into his house and that the body in the chamber is his father. Cate then reveals the big secret: Cipher doesn’t have powers.

Things take a turn for the worse when Cipher finds the hidden camera and proves Cate wrong. As they watch the fight, Jordan starts to hurt Marie — clearly not part of the plan. It becomes obvious that Cipher is controlling Jordan and that he actually does have powers.
