CFB: The 5 worst team in college football this season
Those who know me well know that I love to dog on terrible sports teams.
The New York Jets, the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago White Sox, just to name a few. But why stop at the pros?
With 136 FBS teams, that means statistically, some have to be the worst, and without further ado, let’s crack down on a few of the worst.
#5 - Middle Tennessee (1-6)
To give them credit, three of their losses were one-score games, and they kept things competitive with most of the teams they’ve played against.
However, when your only win is one point over Nevada, and most of the teams you’ve played against are not quality teams, it’s hard not to be put on this list.
#4 - Charlotte (1-6)
Originally, I was not going to put them on this list, and then while doing research on other teams, I viewed their schedule, and they have taken some tough losses this year.
Lost by 14 to Rice, 17 to UNC, 23 to App State, and 28 to USF, just to name a few.
Their only win was by one score over Monmouth
#3 - Nevada (1-6)
The only thing Nevada did this season was give Penn State fans a warning sign of what was to come after they didn’t perform as expected and were decimated.
Since then, they’ve gotten beaten by Middle Tennessee and blown out by every team in the Mountain West for five straight weeks.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re really bad, but there’s a big gap between here and the final two.
#2 - Kent State (2-7)
“But they have two wins!!!”
One was a squeaked-out win over Merrimack, an FCS team, and the other was to the new worst team in D1 (we’ll get to them).
Also, Kent gets more brownie points for consistently having some of the worst lowlights in football.
Mind you, their first win this season was their first win since 2023.
#1 - UMass (0-7)
Words cannot describe how terrible this team is at football.
They got blown out by Kent State, the No. 2 team on this list.
They got blown out by Bryant, an FCS team that THEY PAID to play them.
Their FBS record since reinstating their program in 2012 is 26-129. Almost all of their wins of those 26 are against FCS teams, with their last win against a FBS team coming in 2023 against Army.
UMass is not just bad; they are in a league of their own when it comes to being terrible.
