What is it like to be homeless? To live and sleep in a car?

Every year Bridge of Hope, a nonprofit organization in Centre County, Pennsylvania, organizes a simulation to build empathy and connect families with neighbor groups drawn from local faith communities. The mission of Bridge of Hope is to end and prevent family homelessness.

The volunteers who took part in the simulation said they are committed to working with families for 12–18 months, providing emotional support, practical help, friendship and a sense of community that will last well beyond the program.

Bridge of Hope’s approach blends rental assistance, personalized case management and a strong support network, helping families achieve long-term housing stability and greater financial independence.

The leader of the organization said they emphasize dignity, compassion and partnership. They recognize that homelessness is not simply a housing issue, but a complex challenge that requires nuanced solutions.
